Facebook has many useful features for users to utilize the power of online networking.One of the feature is creating “groups”.Unlike the fan pages,groups allow to send bulk invites and any member of group has the option to send bulk invite to their friends and others.Well the difference between group and fan page regarding “inivitng friends” is,for fan page you are allowed to invite your friends only but in groups you have the option of inviting other people who are not in your friends list too.I agree that fan pages are more popular than groups to gain more exposure but I am gonna discuss only about the groups in facebook in this post as the topic is about it.




1.Create a group in facebook.While creating a group,suggest a keyword rich title as the group name.I had come across some of my friend’s groups,they had a group just promoting their site only.Make the group suitable for all members,so they can join and able promote their contents in your group.

2.In the description field,give a short and upto the point information about your group rather than putting bunch of paragraphs inside it as users dont pay attention to it.

3.Choose the group type.In the select category,choose business or common interest which are the hot topics for group exposure and then fill out the remaining fields giving your link in the website field.

4.Upload a eye-catching picture to your facebook group.

5.In the group settings enable “Allow all members to post links” on wall which will let the group members to share their links in the wall,encouraging them to be active in the group and to participate often in the group.Often check your facebook group to avoid spamming and useless links.

6. Create new discussions related to the topic and invite your group members to participate in the discussions.

7.The one important feature of group that lacks in fan page is ,when you message group members it will appear in their message inbox but you will be able to send only updates to your fans via fan page which is not a noticeable one and does not appear in the live notifications on your facebook account.





8.Another important feature of group is you can import you latest posts in the wall automatically whenever you publish a new post.But this cant be done by importing RSS feeds in the group like fan pages,but you can do this by using networkedblogs application.In your networkedblogs  application,go to your blog’s profile,then click the “syndication” option which will appear below “Edit details”,then enable “Auto-publish to group”,you are done !.

 9.Use E-mail harvester softwares to send mass e-mail invites to new people to join your group.

10.Appoint your active group members as “officers’ of the group encouraging them to participate often in the group.

11.Engage in interaction with your group members often by liking and making comments on their links.

12.Create group events and invite your members to join and participate in the events.

13.And the last one to mention is,facebook has now restricted its settings and you are able to be a administrator of group as long as your members number not exceeded 5000.After that,facebook will take control over it.So,we have to control the limits.

Though fan pages has more advantages than groups,groups are better to get quick attention and  make active discussion than pages.
